Been asking my dad and uncles about my Grandad in world war 2, stories and such and if they had any photos i could look at.
I got this photo and thought it would be a good idea to restore it, seeing as it was fading and cracked.
Wanted to clean it up a lot and boost the contrast etc. But also to give it that old sepia kinda look that war photos had.
I dont know a lot about my grandad because he died in the early 70's when my dad was a teenager, i just wanted to restore the picture so it can live on for another lifetime, or more!
My Grandad was in the Royal artillery unit [link] which was in charge of the bigger fire-power.
He landed in Normandy the day after D-Day, and also fought in Italy. Im not sure where else he fought but im sure ill get a better picture when i talk to my uncles more.
What these men fought for in the war was unbelievable on a scale that i couldn't barely begin to imagine.
Im looking to find out more information on My Grandad, and my uncle is going to find more pictures, so if there in bad condition, i will restore them :]
Its actually fun cleaning up old photos, specially the ones that means most to people.
That is amazing! I have an image of my Granddad's Uncle here but it's barely eligable, how would I be able to enhance it? Baring in mind that I have tried it myself in Photoshop.
i think you may have given the corrected image more contrast than the original had, and you could also give the image a bit more softness, specially on the skin, but it's quite good work, in my view.
